HONEYDRUM – Weekend of Gigs and Workshops

TAC are pleased to bring the Leeds-based world music collective HONEYDRUM to Birmingham for a weekend of workshops and live shows to support and raise money for TAC.

THANK-YOU TO EVERYONE WHO SUPPORTED US DURING OCTOBER. THE HALF-MARATHON AND HONEYDRUM WEEKEND WERE BOTH GREAT SUCCESSES FOR RAISING MUCH NEEDED FUNDS FOR TAC. WE’D PARTICULARLY LIKE TO THANK ALL OF THE HONEYDRUMMERS WHO CAME DOWN FROM LEEDS FOR THE WEEKEND. IT WAS A GREAT EVENT!

ANOTHER £270 FOR TAC!

Fundraiser night AFRICA IREE at the Hare & Hounds in Kings Heath on 4th Dec 2008 raised another £276.46 for TAC! Thank-you to the performers; TAC’s very own Neville Brown did a beautiful reggae set and DJs Django, Royal and Skeleton played Afrobeat, Reggae and Funk till the early hours. There was a great lively and warm vibe for such a cold English winter night! THANK-YOU to everyone who came to support us.

Banging the drum to help children in need

On the 21 August 2008 Amber Support Services (Bromsgrove) held a fete to raise money for Tribute to African Children. The service users (adults with learning difficulties) painted pictures, plates and mugs, and made jewellery and cakes to sell. The staff from Amber supported the day. Talking Drums facilitated a drumming circle. Service users staff and visitors to the fete drummed and sang together.

They raised £233.23 for the charity.

Talking Drums held an all day drumming circle at Redditch town centre where individual drummers were sponsored and members of the public joined in and gave donations.

An incredible night with an African twist!

1st December 2006

A night of fun and music the Union Bar held through SOAS (University of London School of Oriental and African Studies) at the Institute of Education,Thornhaugh St, Russell Square.

with:

Shekere – bounce to those beats!
Sekgura Ensemble – xylophone melodies
Sleepy Ed Hicks & the Snorers
Neville Brown – roots reggae pulses
Planetman – frontman of festival favourites
Asafo – rhythmic poet with a melodious kick
Zongo – an 8- piece with their own distinctive sound
The Kakatsitsi Master Drummers – from Ghana, resident drummers at the Synergy Centre

The music kicked off at 7pm. Bass6 – beat box sensation – hosted the evening at another top Camden venue. He introduced the fabulous Sekgura Ensemble, a forest of xylophones and rhythm.

An interlude of comedy, comment and country pickin’ banjo and fiddle from Sleepy Ed Hicks & the Snorers took us into an unplugged set from Neville Brown, charismatic reggae singer/songwriter and co-founder of “Tribute to African Children”.
Madness from Shekere, led by one of the best West African drum teachers in England.
The night was brought to a close with some moving chanting.

Redditch, 15th September 2006

Reggae artist Neville Brown & a host of other performers gave their time freely, taking to the stage to raise money for the children of Africa. An evening of diverse music & comedy, which delivered something for everyone! It was a great night’s entertainment with all proceeds going to TAC.
