The Volta Region of Ghana is located in the east of the country. It’s population is 1,635,421 and it has an area of 6959.42 square miles. Its home to a relatively small number of rural communities with a vast amount of fertile farm land at their disposal. However, in many areas, because of the absence of modern agricultural equipment and irrigation techniques, the region fails to benefit from it’s biggest area of economic potential which is undoubtedly agriculture. As a result it’s communities suffer from a serious lack of infrastructure and social institutions such as orphanages, facilities for older people, schools, and hospitals.
In response to these problems we aim to facilitate farming projects growing local crops and livestock for the consumption of the communities in which they are produced. Establishing regional self-sufficiency in subsistence crops is our primary aim. Secondly, we aim to facilitate farming projects for export to the UK and other countries to generate foreign currency for the regeneration of the of the region. We will initiate building projects for the benefit of deprived groups providing bed spaces and sustenance, care for older people and the homeless, employment, and positive activities for children and young people.
This project’s policy statement is to;
Build the social and economic infrastructure of the Volta region of Ghana by farming local subsistence crops and livestock, while preserving the natural order of the region. And to grow cash crops using modern agricultural techniques for export from the Volta region, in order to generate national and foreign currency.
Information about the different groups we are working with

Tribute to African Children (TAC) was registered in September 2006. Limited fund raising has taken place as efforts have been concentrated on building working relationships with agencies and individuals in both Ghana and UK. As an unincorporated charity we believe it is of paramount importance to build solid foundations with agencies and individuals we can work in partnership with in the future.
JUNIOR ARTS CLUB, Accra
Founded in 2000, the Junior Arts Club (JAC) works “with the foremost goal of unearthing the creative and artistic talents of the youth in the country, especially the disadvantaged youth living in urban slums”. We were introduced to JAC by one of our volunteers in August 2007. TAC hopes to create a partnership with JAC in the near future; Neville will be meeting with Kelvin Asare-Williams (the President and Founder) in Accra in November 2008 to finalise the working partnership.

Trinity High School, Redditch
Year 10 students at Trinity High School in Redditch, Worcestershire have adopted TAC as their chosen charity. The young people are supported by Redditch Rotary club. Talking Drums facilitated a sponsored drumming circle at Trinity High School on 15 th July 2008. The money raised will be presented to TAC during the Autumn term 2008, after the summer holidays.
Batchley Support Group, Redditch
Batchley Support Group Redditch, work with Batchely community including “hard to reach” young people living in a deprived area of Redditch. TAC is working in partnership with them, supporting and empowering the young people to initially gain confidence and to deal with unresolved emotions by using music as an expression tool. As the young people become more confident they will be encouraged to volunteer with local people or local community projects that are working in partnership with TAC. Future plans are for the partnership agencies and volunteers to become involved with fund raising for TAC and for small groups then to be accompanied to Ghana so that they can visit the projects TAC are supporting.
Holland House Primary School, Sutton Coldfield
The staff, pupils and parents of Holland House have kindly agreed to support TAC as part of their drive to better Community Cohesion. Trustee Adele is working with staff to launch Arts Swaps between Holland House pupils and members of the Junior Arts Club in Accra. We look forward to a future of regular art exchange, matching penpals and fundraising to help less fortunate children in Ghana.
We will be updating this page to keep you informed as the partnerships and projects develop.
